Hell

A phenomenological place characterized by total lack of orientation. Either because nothing seems possible — i.e.: no overlap between logical and phenomenological possibilities) — or everything does — i.e. perfect overlap between logical and phenomenological possibilities)

In the former nothing is ready-at-hand, in the latter everything is present-to-hand. Both are maximally anti-agentic states.

To know nothing is total impotence, but so is to know everything. Omniscience = impotence (at least for humans). Part of why smart people often flail: seeing too many options they get stuck in considering. Explosion. A perfect brain with no effectuators. God without a physical extension. Dead emperor.

Those that see less have only a few avenues to act, and do so.

Fluency or disfluency

Actions done with the explicit intent of making specific thoughts, or actions, easier, or harder to have. Used to create mental and physical stop signs.

E.g.: Use/Mention Abuse, Engineered concepts

Finding the referent

Going from the name of a thing to its referent in the world. Usually done through bouts of Emptiness. Names can have decayed” (no ill intent) or have been deliberately corrupted” (ill intent).

Evolutionary search process

A method that uses variation, selection, and retention to optimize a search problem. Most important: while the process itself is dumb” its results can be very, very smart.

E.g.: How Media and Sociopaths, Clueless, Losers figure out the stuff in this document.

Evil

Done by people who are very layered. To them life is just a game’ Through and through inside an Ideology. They’re dissociated, not fully human, and neither do they perceive others to be. Very rational within a bounded domain and able to do extreme damage.

Engineered spaces aka Choice architecture.

The application of fluency or disfluency for physical actions and spaces. Designing spaces to deliberately make some actions easier and others harder. A deliberate bounding of phenomenological possibilities, a shaping of agency, by shaping the environment.

E.g.: Casinos deliberately don’t have windows or clocks so that you don’t notice how long you’ve been there.
